Service Designer, Experience Strategist & Researcher
Hey there. It’s lovely to meet you. I’m Evie, a service designer and experience strategist who has been working in design & innovation for the past few years. With a non-traditional design background, I know how challenging the transition into professional design world can be—whether you’re a recent graduate or making a conscious career switch. I believe in a no-bullshit, action-oriented approach to mentoring and wading through the ambiguity together of whatever challenge we might be tackling. Happy to work together based on your personal style and needs; especially on the following: TRANSITIONING TO DESIGN + Considering design but not sure what type of design you’d like to learn + Making a decision about graduate school or multiple internship/career opportunities + Crafting your experiences to tell the right story for your design path AMPLIFYING YOUR DESIGN VOICE + Working on teams as the sole designer (or sole advocate for design) + Navigating rooms in which you’re the only person of color + Tips & tactics for how to communicate design thinking to business stakeholders + Working at the intersection of design and consulting PORTFOLIO REVIEWS + Design critique focused on design strategy, service design, and experience strategy + Repositioning your portfolio to tell the most compelling and concise story for the opportunities you’re pursuing ---- About Me I’m Evie, a strategic designer and researcher who has been called a “voice of truth” and “the great synthesizer” in rooms with clients and senior leadership. I’ve spent the past few years working in design and innovation, working on complex problems that bring cross-functional stakeholders and users to the table. Often, I’ve been the sole advocate for human-centered design in rooms where decisions are made that have implications for millions of people. Having started my career in startups and shifted to interventions for large-scale enterprises, my experiences across different scales and industries have enabled me to speak the language between design imagination and pragmatic capabilities. Most recently, I worked as a Senior Design Consultant at Doblin, a design and innovation consultancy within Deloitte’s Applied Design practice. My 2019 MFA Thesis “Alexa, Help Me Be a Better Human: Redesigning Conversational AI for Emotional Connection” unpacks the hidden biases of AI-powered products and services and has been featured in Quartz, Adobe XD Ideas, and the podcast Invisible Forces. I believe that at its best, design is never the destination, but rather the vehicle. It is a tool to amplify others’ voices, co-create a new world, and enable social change. As designers, it is our role to consider not just the intended outcomes, but also the consequences. It is our responsibility to question the status quo and imagine paradigm shifts; and to transform the imagined into tangible, conspicuous change.
