I’m a creatively analytical professional who loves the ‘Why’ question or analyzing the root cause and creating an impact by designing human-centered solutions. Usually, as designers our journey or design process looks like ‘Why’ – What – How. In my case, it was a bit different. It started with answering the ‘How’ part – getting expertise in visual design skills when I started as a UI developer and my duties included developing front-end design in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, creating wireframes in Balsamiq, Photoshop, and prototyping using InVision. As I progressed in my career, In addition to the duties, I also started attending requirement gathering meetings where I was introduced to the ‘Why’ question. This just completely changed my perspective. Before this, I was tuned to land on solutions and this was like unlearning, taking a step back and focusing only on understanding the users and their needs, creating process flows, and then subsequently figuring out a solution following the design process i.e. the ‘What’ part. This opportunity also provided me with exposure to working with cross-functional teams and being associated with a product from initiation to completion and beyond. Later I also assumed duties as a design lead and got a chance to answer the ‘Who’, ‘When’ questions too!
