I'm Gabriela Namie, a Brazilian designer and art director based in Brooklyn, New York. I’ve spent the last 10 years harnessing systematic creative thinking to craft visuals to help brands come to life. I currently work at Google as YouTube Music’s art director. I am both a hands-on designer and a visual advisor, helping guide the creative direction for multiple projects and YouTube Music’s branding. I love working in tech, but coming from agencies environments I never thought I would be in this industry. It has been an amazing learning curve! I studied graphic design at FAAP, the oldest art school in Brazil, and type design at Cooper Union, New York. I started working early on during my Junior year in college in multiple environments – from small studios to large branding and design agencies. After 4 years in the industry, I decided to freelance. That naturally evolved into co-founding Studio Barca, where I had the opportunity to work with small to large clients on branding, illustration, editorial, and animation. After getting approached by Jessica Walsh with a job opportunity, I made the hard decision of leaving São Paulo and Barca to New York and work as a Senior designer at Sagmeister & Walsh (later &Walsh). I learned and grew with the best designers I know and fell in love with New York City. Two years ago, I started working at Google as YouTube Music's art director. I am loving learning more with my peer tech workers and I am excited to work with something so pivotal to human experience – music! I was nominated a Young Gun by the Art Director's Club in 2021 and my work has been recognized by different awards and countries, including Latin American Awards, London International Creative Competition, A’Awards, Indigo Awards, the Brazilian Graphic Design Biennial, etc. During my free time, you can find me biking, traveling, playing with my puppy Martim, or reading about music, design, and cities. I love to use design to amplify messages I believe in. Craft, process and our well-being as workers are equally important to me. With that perspective in mind, I can offer you my perspective on topics such: - Portfolio or project review - Body of work/Personal branding - Freelancing tips and tricks - Career development - Working abroad I met wonderful people through charged mentorships, but ultimately I prefer not to charge for it. This is is a free booking of my Friday mornings, every second half of each year. Languages: English & Portuguese
